Three development banks, KfW IPEX, ING and Bancomext are extending a US$209 million loan for a 300MW solar park in San Luis Potosi to be developed by Fotowatio Renewable Ventures.

Guanajuato’s governor announced Iberdrola’s intentions to build a 105MW wind farm in the state with an expected investment of US$160 million, involving the installation of 50 wind turbines on a 200-hectare area.

Heineken inaugurated its seventh and most sustainable plant in Mexico. The Chihuahua based factory will operate under circular economy principles while also using PV modules and wind turbines to generate energy. The plant will only use two liters of water to produce a liter of beer, making it the most efficient in the world.

Market and Auctions

CENACE executed the Power Balance Market (MBP) for production year 2017, based in the 100 most critical hours, finally establishing that the total amount to be paid will be MX$5.56 billion for the three power regions. For more information per region take a look at the tables, and follow the link.

CENACE also made the economic evaluation of the offers for the first mid-term electricity auction (SMP) for 2017 and last March 5, published the official results. For the process 41 energy and 10 power purchase offers were received. 50MW-year were assigned for 2018 at a price of MX$746,072. No power was assigned for 2019 and 2020, and no energy was assigned for any of the three years.

Vestas installed a prototype of its V120-2.2MW in Denmark that comes with a stronger gearbox and reinforced blades that strengthen performance in higher wind conditions.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy will provide service and maintenance to 55 turbines, with a combined rating of 120MW, located on Polish onshore wind farms owned by Innogy.

Statoil signed an agreement with Polenergia to acquire a 50 percent interest in two early phase offshore wind projects in Poland with a total capacity of 1,200MW.

Auctions and Targets

Germany opened the second onshore wind tender of the year targeting 670.16MW of capacity, with a maximum bidding price of US$0.078 per kWh.

Russia will develop a renewables tender with an 830MW wind, 150MW solar PV and 270MW mini-hydropower quota by late May-early June 2018.

Australia added 1.1GW of small-scale renewable energy capacity in 2017, according to Clean Energy Regulator report.


Brazil’s Far South Regional Development Bank signed a three-year grace period US$61.6 million financial deal for a term of 10 years with the French Development Agency to support green projects in the country.

Microsoft completed a solar 3MW power deal in India, with which it will cover up to 80 percent of the projected electricity needs at Microsoft’s Bengaluru facility.


New Technologies

Ørsted officially started the construction of a biomass-based cogeneration plant in Denmark, with a total investment of US$33 million.

Samsung will deliver a 100MWh energy storage system for a 28MW PV solar park in Hawaii.

Sungrow signed a storage inverter supply agreement for a 30MWh storage project in Japan using NCM lithium batteries.

E.on and Nissan entered into a strategic partnership in the field of electric mobility to explore opportunities on pilot activities and commercial offers related to electric vehicles charging, vehicle-to-grid services and grid integration, as well as decentralized energy generation and storage solutions.
